Types of Massage we offer:

 Shiatsu

Japanese for "finger pressure", this is an ancient Japanese form of alternative medicine that is performed using only the palms, fingers, and especially the thumbs, in relieving muscular pain, nausea, stress, depression, and anxiety.

Shiatsu massage is used to reach the harmony of the chi in the human body. It does not heal the disease; this form of massage therapy directly affects the meridians which then help to unblock the meridian points where the chi is blocked. Health problems are caused by this blockage of chi.

*Benefits of Massage Therapy

1. Massage relieves pain.

Dr. McNulty understands that one of the benefits of massage is the pain relief it can provide. In the hands of a skilled Massage Therapist working under clinical conditions, someone suffering from chronic pain or certain types of injury can experience immediate, partial or temporary relief. If you have chronic pain or discomfort, consult with either Dr. McNulty about possible benefits of massage. Often times massage can be used in conjunction with physical therapy, hydrotherapy and medication to manage injury-related pain.

2. Massage eases tension.

Physical tension caused by standing at your job all day or from doing household chores can be relieved by getting a massage to relax those worn muscles and limbs. You will feel rejuvinated afterwards and more than likely will not put off those heavier chores for a later time.

3. Massage relaxes inflamed muscles.

If you play sports or workout, chances are there will be times when you overdo it or perhaps pull a muscle that has not warmed up properly.  Consider getting a massage to ease the tension and soreness of limbs damaged by sports-related injuries. Check with Dr. McNulty and always let the Massage Therapist know before getting a massage if you have a muscle injury.

4. Massage improves circulation.

Whether you are feeling sluggish, have been doing too much desk work or don't get enough exercise, a massage can help to stimulate your body tissues and improve circulatory flow. For some people, massage can lower blood pressure and improve pulse rates to actually contribute to overall improved health.

5. Massage reduces stress.

A whole-body massage can relax those stiff muscles that may be causing tension headaches. It can help to free your mind of stressful events or difficult emotions temporarily or allow you to relax and take things lighter. Having a massage puts the focus on you and the present, steering away from problems of the past or worries of the future. You can escape challenges and problems by languishing in the care of a trained Massage Therapist whose firm hands will roll the tension directly out of your body.

6. Massage provides expert handling of your minor bodily aches and pains.

Minor aches and pains due to aging or a sedentary lifestyle can be eased with massage therapy. Sports related injuries, accident traumas and even mild arthritic discomfort can also be treated by massage at the Back & Body Health Center. In fact, insurance companies find massage therapy to be medically necessary as part of a treatment plan to help our patients.  Stiff, underused or overused limbs can benefit from professional massage.

7. Massage provides a welcome respite.

Let's face it: Few people take adequate care of themselves. Many of us are caregivers, looking after children, aging adults, our careers or relationships. All of these things can be demanding. Escaping to Back & Body Health Center and getting a massage is a terrific way to step into another world, to enjoy luxury and comfort. Afterward, you will be ready to re-enter the everyday world of stress and strain because you allowed yourself to escape and re-group your thoughts and emotions.

8. Massage enhances your mood.

Releasing feel-good endorphins into your system, massage therapy creates a sense of well being that can make anyone feel better. It's hard to stay in a bad mood when a professional Massage Therapist is working to promote healing in your body. Releasing natural chemicals from the brain will evoke a pleasurable response. Additionally, getting away from the hectic pace of everyday life and enjoying a personal indulgence can give you a calmer, happier frame of mind.

9. Massage makes a great gift for others and lets the giver feel good.

If you are looking for a special gift to give someone for a birthday, anniversary, holiday or any other special occasion, consider a gift certificate from Back & Body Health Center for a massage. Men and women will both appreciate this thoughtful gesture. We can all use a little time out to ourselves from once in awhile.

10. Massage can be rejuvenating.

At various points in life, you may feel run-down, overwhelmed or bored from your daily routine. Any of these types of feelings can exhaust your body. By stimulating the brain and the body, massage therapy will help regenerate sapped power reserves to give you energy for the rest of the day that will carry your spirits for days to follow.
