"The goal of Yoga is to balance and align your body, mind and spirit harmoniously and to sustain that balance throughout the phases of your life.  This requires discipline and patience.  To attempt it with force will create imbalance and injury.  To embody yoga it needs to be practiced with clarity, wisdom and gentleness."

The word “Yoga” means “Union or Yoke”. It is a system of health, combining poses that keep the body and the mind working together to build strength, flexibility, balance and concentration. Practicing yoga builds a strong foundation to grow from in order to become self-assured, clear-thinking, responsible people in the world. With regular practice the body will do surprising things!

The Chakras

The seven major chakras, or energy wheels, are aligned with seven junctions along the spine.  These energy centers are linked to the elements of earth, water, fire, air and ether.  They collect, dispense and convey prana - the vital energy of life.  Each of the seven main Chakras has a name, location, purpose and connection to yoga and the yogasanas.
Muladhara - The Root Chakra:  Its element is earth; muladhara connects us to our roots and helps to keep us grounded.

Svadhisthana - The Self-Abode Chakra:
Its element is water and this chakra brings passion for life and creativity.
Manipura - The Radiant Chakra:
Its element is fire and brings us a connection to vitality and action.
Anahata Chakra - The Wheel of Unstruck Sound:
Its element is air.  Anahata lies at the junction of physical existence and divine essence.

Visuddha Chakra - The Wheel of Purity:  Its element is ether and its connection is to the power of the voice.
Ajna Chakra - The Wheel of Command:
Its element is light and it presides over understanding, concentration, imagination and intuition.
Sahasrara - The Thousand-Petaled Lotus:
Its element is thought and it is the locus of enlightenment.  Spiritual well-being is developed here.

Namaste: The light in me sees the light in you!
